Helping leaders navigate complexity with confidence & clarity of thought.

Catalytic online conversations

ACCORDING TO THE Stoic philosopher Epictetus, “The chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I actually control.” (Discourses, II.5.)

The coronavirus that is currently ravaging the world is one of those uncontrollable externals. What is under our control, though, is how we respond in this or any other crisis; our judgements and actions. It’s times like these that challenge us to deepen our understanding of who we are and where we want to go.

So wherever you are, if you want to deepen your questions and rethink what it means to live and lead in times of great uncertainty, let’s take this opportunity and start a catalytic online conversation. All you have to do is get in touch.

The Discourses are a series of informal lectures written down by Epictetus’ pupil Arrian around 108 AD. Epictetus directs his students to focus attention on their opinions, anxieties, passions and desires, so that “they may never fail to get what they desire, nor fall into what they avoid.” True education, Epictetus said, lies in learning to distinguish what is our own from what does not belong to us (the dichotomy of control), and in learning to correctly assent or dissent to external impressions.

I live in the Netherlands but work internationally, mostly across Europe. So regardless of where you are, if you want to explore the possibilities of working together, let’s start a conversation.
